ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility
This statement describes how The Social Development Committee - Haifa(“SDC”) approaches digital accessibility on this website.
Our commitment
SDC is committed to making this website accessible to all visitors, including people who use assistive technologies or have visual, motor, cognitive, or hearing differences.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and Israeli Standard IS 5568, which incorporates those guidelines into Israeli regulatory context.
How this site is built for accessibility
Accessibility is built into the code itself, not bolted on by an overlay or a third-party widget. Specifically:
- Semantic HTML: headings, landmarks, lists, and links are marked up with their correct elements so screen readers and other tools can navigate the structure.
- Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements (links, buttons, the contact form) are reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
- Visible focus indicators: keyboard focus is always clearly visible, meeting or exceeding WCAG 2.0 AA requirements.
- Colour contrast: text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.0 AA minimum contrast ratios.
- Alternative text: meaningful images carry descriptive alt text; purely decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- Reduced motion:the site respects the operating-system “Reduce Motion” preference; animations are suppressed when that preference is set.
- Skip link:a “Skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page when keyboard focus is on it, letting users bypass repeated navigation.
No accessibility overlay or plugin is in use. Overlays do not reliably fix underlying barriers and can introduce new ones. Our approach is to build accessibly from the start using correct HTML semantics and tested interactions.
